Three Places You Can Live

A city apartment, a country home and an ocean-view house, the Three Homes

There's a little story I like to tell. You can actually live in three different places. And you can decide which one you want to stay in. But most of the time you don't realize that you can decide where you want to stay.

The first place you can stay is like an apartment building in the big city. The balcony has an awesome view of the skyline. There are always shops and cafes open all hours. It's very stimulating, with plenty to do at any hour. This is the place where you're living when you're in your head. And most of us stay there all the time.

The second place you can stay is your country home. It's large and peaceful. You can hear the birds singing, and the wind blowing through the trees. You take a relaxing breath of fresh air, and you feel happy and calm. It feels different from the city. But you rarely come to visit your country home. This is the place where you're living when you're in your heart.

The third place you can stay is a stunning cliffside mansion overlooking the ocean. There's not much to do in this place. But the view takes your breath away, and you're mesmerized by the waves. There's only the ocean, the waves, and you just being there, with nothing to do. You visit this place very occasionally, if at all. This is the place you're living when you're in your gut.

So what's the best place for you to live? It seems like you have three choices. But how often do you choose to enjoy your country home, or your cliffside mansion? Too busy in the city to take a break? It's always up to you.

There's a protocol I use to ask how balanced someone is in their head, heart and gut ratio. Most people are between 60 and 80% in their heads. That leaves maybe 15 or 20% for their heart, and maybe 5 or 10% for their gut.

Then I ask what the ideal ratio would be for them. And it's a funny thing. I don't know how many people I've helped with energy sessions. Everyone's different on everything else. But every time I ask for the optimal balance of their awareness in their head, their heart and their gut, it's always the same answer. It's 20, 40, 40. That's 20% in our heads, 40% in our heart, and 40% in our gut.

Now, if you've been living 5 or 10% in your gut, that's a real eye opener. It's a whole different reality. The idea that the answers will just come to you, and you don't have to figure it out, is such an alien thought to most people. Most of us are in the habit of doing something to solve problems. We want to use our mind. Give me a pencil and paper, I'll get to the bottom of this, right?

But if you go with that ratio, 20, 40, 40, you've got some packing to do. You're moving your energy down to your heart center more, and down to your gut center more. You're shifting your whole landscape.

If I could, I'd take a bag, throw a bunch of stuff in it, and drag it down to here, and say, okay, start setting up. You live here now. And people would be like, "I care about everyone. I'm coming from really wanting to make a difference in the world." Or you might move them into their gut, and they're like, "I don't have any more questions. I just feel so peaceful. I feel safe. I feel like whatever happens is perfect."

So these are the different places you can move your awareness into. And it will actually make profound changes in the rest of you. When you start to make that shift, you're more trusting that it's going to turn out. You're not so busy. You can actually be at ease. You can feel safe.

Something to try

Do some deep breathing, and focus on your heart. Breathe in and out of your heart, as if your breath is coming in through your heart center and blowing out through your heart center. Do four or five breaths like that. Then come back.

Now try the same thing, breathing slowly in and out through your gut center, your solar plexus. Imagine you're breathing in through there, and it blows out from there. Do a few breaths, and just observe what your energy shifts into. Then whenever you're ready, come back.

You just had a little visit to your country home and your cliffside mansion. How does that feel? You can try it right now, or later when you have a quiet minute.

Some of you have already started on this path, and for some of you it's brand new. Either way is okay. Just try it and see.
