Let Your Body Lean Toward Yes

Three photos of a woman standing for the Sway Test, labeled Negative, Neutral and Positive

The Sway Test is the first and easiest test you can do on yourself. It's a whole body method. You don't need anything for it, just you. And it's a great place to begin if you're just starting out.

Stand up straight, and find a balanced, centered position. Stand relaxed. It's a good idea to take a few breaths at first. Then let yourself come to a nice centered place, a neutral position.

Now close your eyes, and let the energy simply flow through your body. Once you feel centered, ask your body to show you a yes. You can just say it. "Show me a yes. Show me a yes." And see what your body does. Does it lean forward? Backward? To one side or the other? Just allow it to happen.

When you ask a question you know will get a yes answer, you'll likely notice that your body leans slightly forward on its own. And when you ask a question you know has a clear no answer, you'll likely feel your body leaning back.

So let go of that first feeling, and stand up straight again. Now ask your body to show you a no. "Show me a no." Notice how your body feels. Does it tend to lean backwards for you? Or does it do something different?

Your body may also decide to sway from side to side. That's fine. You can just ask which is a yes and which is a no. Trust that the answers you get are right.

If that's not so strong for you, you could also try thinking of your favorite food. When I think of my favorite food, it's hard for me not to go towards it. It's almost like a physical, uncontrolled behavior. And if I think of a food I really don't like, it makes me go backwards.

It can take a little patience at first before you feel it. Just relax and see what happens. It's best to have very little expectation. It may take some time to react at first. So keep practicing by asking, until you get a strong answer for both yes and no.

Some people feel the response in a different part of their body. That's fine too. Just observe the feelings, and notice where in your body they're located. One time when I was teaching this, I asked my body to show me what a yes answer would feel like. And I felt a little tightening up on the left side of my forehead. It could be a tightening, or a tingling, in some part of your body.

You can really develop your own way of doing this. You can ask your body, your Higher Self, your mind, your heart, your gut, all of them together, to show you a yes and a no.

And if your answers come out different, or even opposite, that could be what's true for you. Or your polarity could be reversed. That means you're too much in your head, and not enough down in your heart or in your gut. One way to help with that is to do some focused breathing in your heart or in your gut. A lot of people focus on the heart. But the gut is really the place where I believe your intuition and your intention live.

The Sway Test is the first step toward trusting your body to tell you the truth. It's also how you start making a stronger connection with your Higher Self. All of these methods are really just practice, like starting to ride a bike with training wheels. As you connect more deeply, you get to the point where you just know what the right answer is.

Something to try

Try the Sway Test now, if you're able. Stand up for a minute, close your eyes, and ask your body to show you a yes. Then ask it to show you a no. Naturally, don't try this if you have balance issues or if you're around others. And if now isn't a good time, try it out later when you have a chance.

It's the easiest way I know to start feeling your own yes and no.

Some of you have already started on this path, and for some of you it's brand new. Either way is okay. Just try it and see.
